Challenges and Opportunities in Low-Budget Films

This workshop is all about the art of creating a high-quality film with limited resources. Using the award-winning film Trading Happiness (Max Ophüls Audience Award 2020, NO FEAR – First Steps Award, and Golden Horseman at the Dresden Film Festival), we will talk with director Duc Ngo Ngoc and cinematographer Meret Madörin about their experiences and creative solutions in producing a low-budget film.

We will take a close look at key case studies from the film, which was shot abroad, and explore how documentary elements can be integrated into a feature film – not only to save costs, but also to create authenticity and a distinctive cinematic style.

Key Takeaways:

  • Challenges and opportunities in low-budget films.
  • How documentary techniques can enrich feature films.
  • Technology, lighting, sound – smart solutions for small budgets.
  • How Trading Happiness has opened doors to the industry.
  • We look forward to exchanging ideas with you. Free drinks and cake will be provided.
