If you own a Sony FX3 or FX30, there is absolutely no need to mount a cage as there are plenty of holes around the body.
But only a few products are designed to use them, the TA-T13-MFA-B is one of them: It uses the two holes (top left and left side) for a strong connection and will allwo mounting a monitor without blocking the MIS for a microphone.
This is a perfect solution, as the attachment does not block the HDMI port: you can open and close the HDMI port with the TA-T13-MFA-B attached, the HDMI cable will still fit in.
First of all, Tilta makes a great product. I have the FX3 Basic Kit and it is a really good piece of equipment. However, the top cold shoe situated over the HDMI port doesn’t completely secure any bracket by leaving a quarter of the bracket hanging out. When I emailed to ask about it the rep was dismissive and said it was the bracket I used. When I sent pics of different brackets having the same problem and asked for a solution I didn’t get a response for several hours. Finally, he emailed back that the cold shoe was designed specifically for one of Tilta’s handles. When I asked if there was an adapter for it to secure my brackets, he said yes and recommended this one. What he neglected to say is that the adapter doesn’t work with the cage and is designed to be used with the FX3 body sans cage. So now I’ve spent around $30 (including shipping) for a part that is totally useless to me. It’s too bad because like most of Tilta’s stuff it looks like it would be a great addition to someone who didn’t have a full cage for their FX3. So the part gets a 5/5, but Tilta’s representative gets a 0/5 for not knowing the inventory or product. 3/5 overall.
