This 4×5.65 carbon fiber matte box is designed to clamp directly onto standard sized cinema lenses in order to be as lightweight and unobtrusive as possible.
It includes a single lens adapter ring to fit the front diameter of your choice.
Additional sized backings can be purchased separately. We also offer a full kit with multiple backings
These adapter rings not only allow the matte box to directly attach to the lens, but it forgoes the need for lens donuts.
Included in the package is one top French flag to provide flare protection.
It also includes an 15mm rod attachment if you wish to mount the matte box via LWS rods.
Amazing product and I don¡¯t think anyone beats it for the value however why would they make spherical hard mattes but no anamorphic mattes? It would also be nice if you could add barn doors, but not the end of the world especially for how nice the build quality is and the overall price point this comes in at
Thank you for the feedback! We do not have any anamorphic hard mattes currently available, but our support team may be able to help with some 3rd party recommendations! You can contact them via: support@tilta.com
This is a solid Matte Box that¡¯s very well built and feels sturdy- could never guess the price I bought it for! However, like with most camera gear, 1 missing element of an item is capable of overshadowing all its pros hence making me reluctant on using it as much and that js the side flags or the lack of at least a mount to be able to modify it by adding one on each side.
Other than that it¡¯s the best thing you could get on a budget considering the overall functionality, price, look, and built! Nothing beats it so far.
Look, you pay $100 for a Fotga Matte Box, you’re gonna get a $100 matte box made of cheap plastic. You pay a bit more for a Tilta, you’re getting solid metal and high quality plastics. Materials matter when you’re carrying this thing around. It’s easily the best matte box for the price.
Minor gripe is with the fitting of the forced mattes that come with the box. They insert, and are held in place by 4 small bumps inside the plastic frame of the box. However, they take a lot of effort to put in, and that exertion causes those bumps to get scratched up easily. Scratches mean resale value loss for me, so I have to give it a knock for this. Otherwise, it’s stellar.
